Only a just negotiations/dialogue can save civilians in crisis hit Cameroon’s English Speaking Regions, Not even Reconstruction
2 min readThe truth is that by the time justice will be served, and peace returned to the Anglophone Regions of Cameroon, people will happily reconstruct the destroyed properties without hesitation. Reconstruction is a nice initiative but the time is not favourable when the armed conflict which the solution is known is still ongoing.
We should not be strangers on what the problem in Cameroon’s English Speaking Regions is. The problem is autonomy which is her birthright since 1961 when she got her independent by joining La Republic du Cameroun at the time.
The two states federation with equal status as it was when the Southern Cameroons joined La Republic du Cameroun in 1st October 1961 is where we can start finding the solution to the Anglophone Crisis.
When you go into the hinterlands, children now sang the history we only got to know in secondary schools. There is nothing hidden now, we should correct the mistakes of 1972 and 1982 which in each instance, the autonomy of the Southern Cameroons was relegated.
We can correct, mistakes of the past by going back to start from where we began. Let us start from two states federation to save the lives of unarmed civilians who are being killed every day. Let justice and peace reign supreme, injustice should have no place in the 21st Century. We can still make it.
