Anglophone Crisis, Cameroon: Rev Father Sylvester Ngarba, a Catholic Priest has been arrested by Military in the North West Region of Cameroon
2 min readBased on the information obtained from RADIO EVANGELIUM – KUMB, on 4 June 2021, the Cameroonian military arrested Rev. Father Sylvester Ngarba of the Kumbo Diocese.
He was arrested in Vekovi, a locality in Jakiri Sub Division in Bui Division of the North West region of Cameroon. The military is accusing the Priest of cooperating with the separatist fighters in the area. As stated by the statement by the Diocesan Communications Service of the Diocese of Kumbo, “the military forcefully arrested Fr Sylvester Ngarba Nsah, a priest in charge of Vekovi pastoral zone, accusing him of collaborating with the separatist fighters.”
It is worthy to note that, the separatist fighters have reportedly accused the same priest of daring to open the Catholic school in the area. The official statement from the diocese states, “This same priest has more than twice been arrested and tortured by the “Amba Boys” for daring to open the Catholic school in Vekovi.”
According to the statement from the Diocesan Communications Service – Diocese of Kumbo, “He was rough-handled by the military some two weeks ago and now again; he is in the hands of the military forces. A military convoy has brought him to Bamenda and we are not sure what will happen to him”
The Catholic Christians and the general public have been calling for his unconditional release. it is worthy to note that he has been transfer to Bamenda at the time of this report.
