Anglophone armed conflict, Cameroon: Civilian vehicle stepped on an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in the North West Region

1 min read

On 4 June 2021, a civilian vehicle was damaged by an IED along the Bamenda-Mbegwi Road in the North West Region of Cameroon. The explosive is believed to be planted by the Ambazonian fighters who have been fighting for the restoration of the Southern Cameroons since 2016

Onboard the vehicle were eight (8) civilians who survived the explosion that damaged the front part of the vehicle. The lucky civilians were seen jubilating and thanking God for surviving the explosion

It is not known whether the above vehicle was the target but the military vehicles have been the target by separatist fighters/Ambazonian fighters, which have seen an upsurge since the beginning of 2021.

Recently, the use of IED attacks against the Cameroonian military has dramatically increased and most of these attacks have been successful leading to the death and destruction of military vehicles.

We continue to call for genuine and mediated dialogue/negotiations between the Cameroonian government authorities and Ambazonian leaders
