More than 1000 women from the 10 Regions of Cameroon have signed to fight for peace in th country

This convention is the first initiative of its kind taking into consideration the rise of security challenges in the country. The armed conflict in the North West and South West Regions, the Bokoharam insurgency in the Far North Region, insecurity in the East Region and the political and socioeconomic crisis in the country have continued to pose a threat to peace in Cameroon.

The convention which started on July 29 2021  will be ending on 31 July 2021. The event has been a successful one so far. This event has seen women expressing their desire for peace in Cameroon. During the first day, at least 1200 women attended the convention.

The event which is taking place at Palaise des Congres, in Yaounde, the Centre Region of Cameroon have seen the Government officials, members of the Civil Society Organizations, community leaders, traders etc. endorses the peace convention and are attending in their great numbers.  The convention have seen leaders like Chimamanda Adichie, a crusader for the rights of women speak.

The National Women’s Convention for Peace in Cameroon is the first initiative of its kind: a gathering of over 1,000 women from all 10 regions of Cameroon, including all 58 divisions and all 360 sub-Divisions – to pledge their knowledge and experience to the peace process, claim their place to contribute meaningfully to ending the security crises and make an unequivocal call for peace now.

The event is organised by The Friedrich Ebert Foundation (FES), a German-based organisation that bases its work on freedom, equality, social justice, and solidarity in collaboration with 38 other NGOs, international organisations and diplomatic representations.
