World News: Haiti Earthquake: More than 700 confirmed dead
1 min readAs confirmed by the Haiti Official according to BBC News, at least 724 persons (as of the evening of 15 August 2021) have died after a powerful 7.2 magnitude earthquake hit the country on Saturday 14 August 2021. BBC also reported that an unknown number of persons are missing and that at least 2800 persons have been injured.
On 12 January 2010, Haiti sadly witnessed the earthquake a 7.0 magnitude earthquake which claimed at least 220, 000 lives, injured at least 300, 000 persons, destroying 3,978 schools while at least 1.5 Million People were internally Displaced according to CNN.
It is worthy to note that, the country is facing a political crisis as its President was on 7 July 2021 assassinated in his home while the attackers injured his wife in the course of the attack.
The aftermath of this catastrophe is in the country is pathetic as persons are killed, injured while homes, hospitals, schools, are destroyed. The survivors are in need of humanitarian assistance.
