Sudan Coup, the military dissolved the civilian interim government, arrest political leaders and declared a state of emergency.

On 25 October 2021, Gen Abdel Fattah Burhan took over power in Sudan from the Interim government put in place after the 2019 protest, which resulted in the ousting of Omar al-Bashir, the former president of Sudan.  The ousted interim government was put in place to oversee the country’s affairs until the 2023 plan elections. The Sudan coup leaders have also blamed the recent decision by the military on political infighting according to BBC News.

According to the BBC News report, at least 10 people are reported to have been killed since the unrest began as of the time of this publication. when Sudan got independence, there have been political instability/civil war until when Sudan Divided in 2011

The Sudan Coup leader reiterated according to BBC that, “The dangers we witnessed last week could have led the country into civil war…..The prime minister was at his house but we feared that he will be harmed,” he added…..I was with him last night… and he is going about his life… he will return to his home when the crisis is over and all threats are gone.”

The Sudan Coup has been widely condemned globally. The US, the UK, EU, UN and African Union, of which Sudan is a member, have all demanded the immediate release of all arrested political leaders which includes members of Mr Hamdok’s cabinet according to BBC News.

Sudan Coup is among an Epidemic of coups d’etats affecting Africa and Asia said UN chief Antonio Guterres while urging the international community to effectively address the issue through the UN Security Council- BBC News

The US according to BBC has halted $700m (£508m) in aid to Sudan and the EU has threatened to do the same. Both are demanding the restoration of the civilian government without preconditions.
