I strongly condemn the shooting and killing of Tataw Brenda, a 7-year old pupil in Nkwen – Bamenda on her way back from school today. The killing of this little innocent schoolgirl by a police officer follows a similar killing in Buea on October 14, when a Gendarmerie officer shot and killed Carolaise Enondiale a 6-year old pupil on her way to school.
These reckless and senseless killings from trigger happy officers is one too many.

The duty of the police is to protect the population and not to kill innocent children and unarmed civilians. The police officer responsible for this heinous crime must be held accountable. This culture of impunity which runs riot amongst law enforcement officers must stop.

The population of Bamenda justifiably came out in their numbers to protest this killing. The government must account for the excessive and inappropriate use of force that has reportedly resulted in the death of at least one protester.
Justice needs to be done, but above all justice needs to be seen to be done. Little innocent Tataw Brenda’s life should not go in vain.
Enough is enough.
