Cameroon: Barrister Agbor Balla advises leaders of the Anglophone struggle on the importance of Tolerance
2 min readBarrister Agbor Nkongho, leading Cameroonian human rights defender and freedom fighter in a social media publication has advised leaders of Southern Cameroons struggled on the importance of unity and tolerance. He said the following on his Facebook page
The leadership crisis, infighting and smear campaign is the price we pay when we destroy all our leaders through lies and unfounded stories. We have delegitimized all our leaders and brought their reputation to disrepute. They use surrogates and man Fridays to spread and peddle lies against those they don’t like.
They create fake profiles and use their “fans” to attack the integrity of others. Today we are complaining but when some of us were the focus of their attacks we said nothing. What goes around comes around. Today we are complaining. It takes my mind to a 1946 post-war confessional prose by the German Lutheran pastor Martin Niemöller:”…Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out— because I was not a trade unionist. Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew. Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.”
