role PURPOSE

To ensure efficiency and effectiveness in implementation of project activities in the assigned communities from Plan international’s program/project stakeholders in the North West and South West Regions of Cameroon in close collaboration with the Project Team.

Dimensions of the Role

The Community Volunteer works under the supervision of the Project Officer. He/she also works closely with the MER Officer and Field Assistants during his/her work in the field. He/she is primarily responsible for timely and quality implementation and Reporting of project activities.

Accountabilities

Main duties and responsibilities;

  1. Carryout community engagement activities
  2. Sensitization in the communities on Gender Based Violence (GBV) and Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights (SRHR)
  3.  Organize and facilitate community outreach sessions
  4. To carryout active GBV case identification
  5. To refer survivors for Medical and Psychological support in Partner Health facilities and for other needed services and communicate challenges in case management.
  6. Liaise between medical facilities and Plan International.
  7. Provide Psychosocial First Aid to survivors
  8. Facilitate the targeting, management and distribution of dignity kits
  9. Manage community-based feedback and complain mechanisms.
  10. Refer survivors to project assistant for remote support
  11. Stock management, packaging and distribution of dignity kits.
  12. Timely submission of weekly, monthly and quarterly reports to the MER Officer.
  13. Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor

Success metrics:

  1. Number of cases of Gender Based Violence Identified, managed, referred and closed.
  2. Number of PFA provided to survivors
  3. Number of sensitization and awareness raising sessions organized
  4. Successful stock management and distribution of dignity kits
  5. Weekly, monthly and quarterly submission of reports with clean data records
  6. Adhere to Plan International’s principles on safeguarding and young people during data collection

Dealing with Problems:

  1. Complexity of problems handled & the degree of investigation, analysis, & creative thinking required to solve them.
  2. Ensure SOPs are respected
  • Ensures that Plan International’s global policies for Child Protection (CPP) and Gender Equality and Inclusion (GEI) are fully embedded in accordance with the principles and requirements of the policy including relevant Implementation Standards and Guidelines as applicable to their area of responsibility. This includes, but is not limited to, ensuring staff and associates are aware of and understand their responsibilities under these policies and Plan International’s Code of Conduct (CoC), their relevance to their area of work, and that concerns are reported and managed in accordance with the appropriate procedures.

Technical expertise, skills and knowledge

Essential

Knowledge, Skills, Behaviours, and Experience Required to Achieve Role’s Objectives:

Gained through education, training, & experience

Qualification and Experience

  1. At least GCE O/ Level or its equivalent
  2. Should be between 18 and 35years old
  3. Demonstrates good knowledge of community engagement
  4. Minimum of 6 months’ work experience as a community worker
  5. Ability to carryout community sensitization and outreach activities
  6. Mastery of the NW/SW context.
  7. Mastery of Report writing
  8. Ready to do field work with vast experience field work
  9. Must be resident in Benakuma, Befang or Bui areas of the NW region

Demonstrated behaviours needed by the post-holder to successfully perform the role:

  1. Have basic computer knowledge and skills with mastery standard software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint…);
  2. Ability to speak, read and write English as well as pidgin English
  3. Good Community Communication skills

Physical Environment

Dealing with Problems:

  1. Maintain neutrality to the on-going crisis.
  2. The job requires intense interventions on the field, in areas often at risk. This requires prudence, vigilance and compliance with security instructions on the part of the animator.
  3. Excellent and creative leadership skills in implementing the activities, in accordance with the standards, principles and with possible resistance from colleagues as is often the case in emergency response work 
  4. S/he should work with tight deadlines and accept travels/stays in areas often austere.
