Anglophone crisis in Cameroon: The Ministry of Defence acknowledge its soldiers killed two civilians in the North West Region

The Cameroon Ministry of Defence in a communique signed on 21 September 2022 has acknowledged that its soldiers violently attack and killed at least 2 civilians in an unfortunate incident. The event took place in the North West Region of Cameroon precisely in Momo Division.

The incident led to the killing of the following persons as revealed in the Communique; Dame ABAZIE Suzanne, aged 49; Lady ETOH BASHEBA AKUTAH, 47 years old.

The communique also narrates that 03 (three) elements of the Defence and Security Forces of the Battalion of the Koutaba Aeroportees de Troops (BTAP) who were present in NYLBAT-ANDEK acted in violation of the instructions, attacked some inhabitants and unfortunately open fire on them. This unfortunate incident took place on 19 September 2022 and the bodies of victims were recovered by the families.

The Ministry of Defence expressed its regret relating to the inhuman act by its soldiers and addresses its most saddened condolences to the families of the victims.

The Ministry through its communication chief, Cyrille Serge says that precautionary measures had been taken and the 03 soldiers of the patrol were disarmed, demobilized, taken out of the area and arrested by Gendarmerie authorities of Mbengwi. The investigation were immediately opened by the local administrative and judicial authorities.
