South West: Core Care Africa and Buea Association in Belgium Donate Gifts to Rehabilitation Institute For The Blind Buea.
3 min readOn 7 December 2023, Core Care Africa in partnership with the Buea Association in Belgium in an outreach initiative dubbed “Buea Association in Belgium Giving Back to Buea Community” donated gifts to the visually impaired persons of Rehabilitation Institute for the Blind popularly known as the Bulu Blind in Buea, the South West Region of Cameroon. Each of the 24 beneficiaries received one pack of gift containing white canes, buckets, towels, soaps, toothpaste and toothbrushes.
The event started with a word from the director of the Rehabilitation Institute for the Blind, Madam Tamufor who appreciated the efforts by Core Care Africa and the Buea Association in Belgium to provide gifts to visually impaired persons especially white canes. She equally encourages the people of goodwill to keep on supporting the vulnerable persons who are in the Rehabilitation Institute.
Mr. Ekole Basil, the founder and president of Core Care Africa, while speaking shortly after the welcome address by the director, thanked the Buea Association in Belgium for providing the funds for the events as well as thanked the Core Care Africa team for the successful organization of the event. He stated that the selection of the beneficiaries was through the vulnerability assessment criteria of Core Care Africa. The beneficiaries were selected based on their needs and the neediest were selected. Noting that December is a month of festivity, advised the students in the institute to use the gifts deciduously for their goods.
The representative of the Buea Association in Belgium, Mr Rene Awara While giving his address during the event equally expressed satisfaction with the successful organization of the event by Core Care Africa and the management of the Rehabilitation Institute for the Blind. According to him, what is motivating the Buea Association in Belgium to give back to the community is the need to protect the rights of vulnerable persons and also to help the government further protect human rights. He thanked the management of the Buea Association for providing funding and also encouraged the beneficiaries to accept the gifts and use them with care. He equally said that the donations were not the first nor the last as he promised the institution that the Buea Association would still visit the Rehabilitation Institute.
The Representative of the student, while welcoming the donating organizations thanked Core Care Africa and the Buea association in Belgium for the gifts and promised to use the gifts with care. He equally urged other persons living with visual impairment to come and join them in the Rehabilitation institute. Among the issues raised by the representative of the beneficiary was public begging which he described as unacceptable and disgraceful to them.
During the visit, Mr Agbor Valerie, a successful businessman and former student in the Institute was invited and during his address to the student, he thanked the management for the care they are giving to the children in the centre and their efforts in making sure that students are well catered for in and out of the school. He equally insisted on the fact that begging in churches, roads, markets, etc is not encouraged and unaccepted. While testifying about the benefits of the institution, encouraged the students to be loyal and respect their teachers as well as be willing to learn and impact their communities with skills of different kinds.
At the End of the event, coordinated by the executive director of Core Care Africa, gifts were handed over to the beneficiaries who received them with excitement.
