Duties
The incumbent provides security for Embassy Yaounde and Embassy Branch Office (EBO) Douala personnel and facilities by conducting access control and visitor screening duties as a member of a local guard program. Detects, deters, responds, and reports potential criminal and terrorists’ acts directed against U.S. Government personnel and facilities. Mobile Patrol Senior Guard provides limited work guidance on access control and security equipment operation for up to 35 rotating residential guards ensuring that U.S. government property and personnel are safeguarded. Responds to emergencies upon RSO direction and has responsibilities of First Responder duties.
He/She Protects U.S. Government personnel, facilities, and equipment from damage or loss. The Local Guard force (LGF) is one component of the Mission’s security apparatus and complements other physical, technical, and procedural security systems. The LGF shall carry out specific actions as described in General and Post Orders. Serves as acting Guard Supervisor on an as-needed basis to provide RSO officer notifications of urgent and/or ongoing security matters.
Qualifications and Evaluations
Requirements:
All selected candidates must be able to obtain and hold a:
- security certificate; or
- Public Trust – background investigation security clearance.
All selected candidates will be subject to a background investigation and may be subject to a pre-employment medical exam.
Selected candidate must be able to begin working within a reasonable period of time upon receipt of agency authorization and/or clearances/certifications or their candidacy may end.

Experience: A minimum of 5-year experience in the military or as a police officer, or security guard required.
Language: Limited Knowledge (written & spoken) in English and French is required. This may be tested.
Job Knowledge: Knowledge of the emergency response procedures and notification process, familiarity with state-of-the-art security equipment and processes, awareness of cultural norms and customs required. Knowledge of traffic law and be familiar with local traffic accident resolution procedures.
Must be knowledgeable of post organizations, offices, buildings, and residence’s location. Incumbent must exercise good judgment on a daily basis and must be able to call upon a supervisor in any case needed. As a first response leader, incumbent must recognize the severity of the situation and then come up with the most effective plan to solve problems. Making decisions and delegating work to other first responders is essential to providing efficient help in emergency situations.
Skills And Abilities: Ability to understand the security control panel and to operate emergency alarms and the public address system. Ability to use state-of-the-art security and radio communication equipment. Ability to use Automated External Defibrillator. Ability to use fire extinguisher. Ability to use personal protective equipment (i.e. batons, pepper spray, handcuffs, and flexi cuffs, etc.). Daily duties may involve extended periods of walking and/or standing in a wide variety of weather conditions. Ability to work flexible shift schedules, to include nights, days, weekends, and/or holidays. Ability to operate motor vehicle. Host country driving license is required. Must effectively react to various incidents. Must be able to independently take action as necessary depending on the nature of incidents outlined in guard orders. Must be able to communicate with persons from all socioeconomic classes. Must be familiar with dispute mediation tactics to ease potentially dangerous security situations.
Communication with visitors to permit access to US government facilities and with Embassy Yaoundé and Embassy Branch Office (EBO) Douala personnel to verify access. Interacts with members of the local police in emergency situations.

SALARY: The annual gross salary includes: the Basic Rate, the Miscellaneous Benefits Allowance, and the End-of-the-Year Bonus. Seniority Allowance is paid in accordance with local labor law. A Cashier allowance is paid for eligible positions.
MEDICAL BENEFITS: The U.S. Mission in Yaoundé directly reimburse eligible employees for covered medical expenses incurred for them and/or eligible dependents, subject to the stated limits of the Local Compensation Plan.
LEAVE BENEFITS: Subject to the stated limits and rules of the Local Compensation Plan, employees are entitled to the following types of leaves: Annual Leave, Sick Leave, Maternity Leave, Special Leave.
HOLIDAYS: The U.S. Mission in Yaoundé and the Embassy Branch Office in Douala observe American and Cameroonian public holidays, about 19 holidays per year.

- Current employees who used a hiring preference to gain employment who are within their first 90 calendar days of employment are not eligible. This does not apply when the hiring mechanism is TEMP or the work schedule is intermittent or irregular.

Once HR Office receives the medical clearance and the security certification, the applicant will receive a Formal Offer with an agreed start date.
