In a significant step towards modernizing Cameroon’s identification process, on 17 February 2025, AUGENTIC, a renowned provider of secure identity solutions, in collaboration with the Directorate General for National Security (DGSN), officially launched a new secure identification system for National Identity Cards. This milestone marks a new era in the country’s efforts to enhance security and streamline identification procedures.

The new identification system, which becomes gradually operational, integrates online pre-enrollment with a highly efficient enrollment process. This innovative approach significantly reduces processing times and improves accessibility for all citizens, ensuring that the identification process is more user-friendly and efficient.

Cameroon has set a new standard in secure identification technology by becoming the first country in Africa to adopt the ID-1 portrait format, in line with the latest guidelines from the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). This forward-thinking move demonstrates the Cameroon’s commitment to embracing cutting-edge technology to enhance the security and reliability of its identification documents.

Labinot Carreti, CEO of AUGENTIC, highlighted the importance of this initiative during the launch event: “The new secure identification system is being launched today with online pre-enrollment. The system is designed to be similar to the highly successful biometric passport issuance process. On February 24, physical enrollment will begin in selected offices in regional capitals and will gradually be extended to all offices across the country. Our goal is to ensure that every Cameroonian has access to a secure and reliable identity document, which is the cornerstone of citizenship.”

This ambitious project is the result of a 15-year contract signed between the DGSN and AUGENTIC in May 2024. The partnership aims to modernize Cameroon’s national identification system, providing citizens with secure and reliable identity documents that meet international standards.

AUGENTIC’s commitment to this transformative project underscores the company’s dedication to providing a transparent and secure identification process for the people of Cameroon. The collaboration with DGSN ensures a smooth transition and successful deployment of the new system, ultimately enhancing the security and efficiency of the country’s identification process.

As the new system gradually rolls out, citizens can look forward to a more streamlined and secure identification process, setting a precedent for other countries in the region to follow. The launch of this innovative identification system is a testament to Cameroon’s commitment to modernization and progress, paving the way for a brighter and more secure future for its citizens.
