Presidential Elections in Cameroon: Discover the only Woman who qualified for the upcoming presidential elections
In a historic moment for Cameroonian politics, Mayor Tomaino Ndam Njoya, leader of the Cameroon Democratic Union (UDC), is standing tall as the only woman among 13 approved presidential candidates for the upcoming October 12, 2025 election. Her candidacy offers a compelling narrative of resilience, legacy, and unwavering commitment to public service.
Born into a family steeped in political engagement, Tomaino’s journey accelerated following the passing of her husband, Adamu Ndam Njoya, a revered Minister and founder of the UDC. Her transition from Parliamentarian to Mayor of Foumban in 2020 marked a turning point, not just in her career, but in Foumban’s civic revival. Winning the municipal council elections, she stepped into leadership with grace and tenacity, pushing forward initiatives rooted in development and inclusion.
Fast-forward to 2025, and Tomaino is aiming for the highest office in the land, bringing with her the dreams of countless Cameroonian women and youth. Out of 83 candidates who submitted files at Elections Cameroon (ELECAM), only 13 were validated, with Tomaino emerging as the sole woman candidate. Her presence symbolizes both a political breakthrough and a call to reimagine leadership in Cameroon.
Notably missing from the candidate list is opposition figure Maurice Kamto, whose exclusion sparked public outcry over procedural transparency. While the political landscape continues to shift, Tomaino’s candidacy invites national reflection on the values we wish to see upheld in governance: equity, authenticity, and people-centered leadership.
As the countdown to October begins, Cameroonians find themselves at a crossroads. Will they embrace change through an unexpected but steadfast leader? Or will the system reinforce its old traditions?
