CHRDA Condemns maltreatment of Rev. Tangem, an Anglophone detainee  who died handcuffed in Yaounde General Hospital

The ill-treatment of prisoners, arrested in connection to the  Anglophone armed conflict in Cameroon’s prison is a call for concern. Several outings by Human Rights institutions and defenders calling for the respect of human rights in Cameroon prisons have ended up in vain.

The recent case of Rev. Tangem Thomas who died in pains and chained in the hospital bed in Yaounde General Hospital is one out of many. According to the Centre for Human Rights and Democracy in Africa  (CHRDA), the prison authorities should respect prisoners rights as per international human rights standards while highlighting  the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and national laws

Prisoners are humans and deserves right to better health conditions

The Human Rights and Legal Research Centre is joining the voices of human rights defenders both national and international to urge the Cameroonian authorities to respect prisoners rights
