Scholarship Opportunity for Internally Displaced Girls in Cameroon’s North West and South West regions. EXSSA-USA DREAMERS SCHOLARSHIP 2021

2 min read

Overview: Ex-Saker Students Association U.S.A (Ex-SSA, USA), is proud to announce the newly established Dreamers Scholarship Fund. This fund provides scholarships for academically qualified female students in primary school in Cameroon, with extreme and prolonged unusual financial challenges, who would otherwise not be able to afford a secondary school education, let alone a quality education program in a boarding secondary school like Saker Baptist College.

This is a limited opportunity that will only be available to three students this year but one that we hope to expand, with additional support from our community, in the coming years. While the underlying eligibility for this scholarship is extreme and prolonged unusual financial challenges, each year we may decide to focus on a specific disenfranchised group.

This year our target group is “Internally Displaced Persons” (IDPs). The successful students will be awarded full scholarships for seven years in Saker Baptist College, from form one to upper sixth. This scholarship also ensures that the successful students are catered for holistically to ensure continued success in the classroom. The deadline for applying to the 2021 Dreamers Scholarship is 30th April 2021

Who is Eligible to Apply in 2021?

  1. Young girls in class six, the terminal class in primary school, who will be taking the Government Common Entrance exam this year, 2021. However, to be considered, they must pass the common entrance with outstanding scores.
  2. Young internally displaced girls who passed the government common entrance exam last year, 2020, with outstanding scores but were unable to enrol in secondary school or a quality boarding school due to extreme and unusual financial hardship.
  3. Eligible pupils must be recognized as Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) from the ongoing violence in the Southwest and Northwest regions of Cameroon. In addition, they should be able to prove continuous extreme and unusual financial hardship to receive the scholarship (Preference would be given to applicants who are registered as IDPs and living in Centers of Vulnerable Persons or with non-relatives.)
