ESFA is Combating Misinformation in times of COVID-19 in Buea-Cameroon

On 6 May 2022, Ethical and Sustainable Future for All (ESFA), a nongovernmental organisation based Buea, the South West Region of Cameroon took the campaign against misinformation to Bernice Comprehensive College Mile 16. while talking HRLRC, Mr. Shing Praise, the programs director said that the funds was provided by Global Youths Mobilisation to ‘combating Misinformation in times of COVID-19 in Cameroon.’

Since the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic, series of fake news as to what COVID-19 is has continue to spread accross the globe. Some people, including influencers and religious persons have continously linked the spread of the COVID-19 to the 5G technology, while some people believe that the vaccination against the COVID-19 pandemic is dangerous. all of these are misinformation as accurate information in relation to the developments around the COVID-19 pandemic can be found on official platforms of the World Health Organisation.

The aim of the outreach according to Mr Shing Praise was to sensitize the students on the measures put in place by the World Health Organisation and the national authorities in combating the spread of COVID-19.

As highlited on ESFA offcial Website, During the awareness campaign, the issue of misinformation was at the centre. Miss Kongyuy Falon, a medical nurse and our health resource person repeatedly advised students to take the measures put in place by the world health organisation serious. she outlined some of these measures including sanitation and vacination.

During the event, ESFA distributed facemasks to students, buckets, hand sanitisers and liquid soap to the school to create awareness on the presence of COVID-19 and the Cholera outbreak wherein Mile 16-Buea is the centre where Cholera cases have continued to increase.
