About Reach Out Cameroon

Reach Out NGO is a local, woman-led not-for-profit organization, headquartered in Buea, in the South-West Region of Cameroon. their aim is to improve the lives of the most vulnerable people using a community-centred approach. We have ongoing projects in Cameroon, in North-East Nigeria and the Kivu region of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Reach Out operates through 3 main programmatic areas;

Health: Being the pioneer department of the organization, the health department strives to ensure that communities adopt a positive and health seeking behavior for improved quality of life. It also seeks to increased access to essential needs (medical, nutritional, and psychosocial support), for women, children, vulnerable persons and remote communities.

Human Rights and Governance: The Human Rights and Governance Department’s key focus is on rights advocacy for women and children, peace building and mediation, activism against gender-based violence using conflict sensitive and survivor centered approaches, protection and the rule of law. The department also emphasizes on organizational capacity strengthening and support for local governance and regional and local authorities, youth empowerment and engagement in civic responsibility while promoting positive masculinities and human rights monitoring.

Wealth Creation: The Wealth Creation Department of Reach Out Cameroon has the main goal to improve household incomes of vulnerable women through the establishment of micro-projects, sustainable agriculture and micro-credit operations so that beneficiaries are self-reliant in their communities. Generally, beneficiaries include: school dropout, single mothers, internally displaced women, persons living with HIV and persons living with disabilities.

Job Description

Reach Out Cameroon is looking for a Psychologist for its Peace House, within the framework of the project titled “Promoting WPS through a culture of Peace and Social Cohesion in Cameroon” funded by Peace and Stabilization Operations Program (PSOP), Global Affairs Canada. The project aims to increase the participation of grassroots women and young adult women from 40 conflict-affected communities of the North West, South West, Littoral, and West Regions of Cameroon in peacebuilding initiatives at community, regional and national levels.

Supervision

The Psychologists will work under the supervision of the Peace House Coordinator.

Scope of the Project

The project will cover 40 communities of the North West, South West, Littoral and West Regions.

Employment Duration

The employment will run for 20 months starting from November 1st, 2022 to June 30th, 2024.

Specific duties and responsibilities

– Ensure that identified GBV cases are provided with direct psychosocial support and internal and external referral as needed, accordingly to a beneficiary/survival centered approach and based on guiding principles.

-Assists GBV and PSS case managers in the detection of most vulnerable cases.

-Provide a clinical assessment on identified cases of persons at risk and survivors of GBV.

-Open individual files for survivors, monitor the service provision and ensure that cases under assistance receive all the care and support needed.

-Provide identified children and adolescents at risk, women and girls, men and boys, IDPs and host community survivors or at risk of GBV with emotional support, ad hoc immediate assistance.

-Support the development and establishment of internal and external referral and coordination mechanisms for assistance to those at risk or survivors of GBV in close collaboration with other relevant actors in each location.

-Organize and facilitate regular peer-led- Focus group discussions and specific psychosocial group activities.

-Support the GBV and PSS case managers to provide quality case management by offering trainings to ensure that protection issues are mainstreamed in field interventions and detection of cases can be efficiently referred in a timely manner.

-Set up monitoring systems to evaluate the effectiveness and impact of the individual counselling and psychosocial support intervention.

-Ensure a qualitative and quantitative reporting through specific reporting tools (Assessment forms, Psychological follow up form, intake form).

Education and Experience.

-Master’s degree in Psychology (Clinical psychology, counselling psychology preferable)

-Minimum 4 years of work experience in the same domain (GBV programming, counselling/provision of psychosocial support) in an NGO setting.

-Previous experience of implementing individual and community-based counselling/psychosocial support.

-Previous experience of working in conflict and fragile settings.

-Training experience required in capacity building.

-Knowledge of public mental health, including the integration of MPHSS interventions models in promotion/prevention and treatment at primary and secondary health care level.

-Proven capacity in MPHSS programs and community health interventions to address the psychological and psychosocial consequences of violence.

-Strong organizational and supervisory skills and interpersonal skills with ability to work with diverse cultural environment.

-Experience in mental health and protection work with displaced persons and GBV cases.

-Excellent command of the use of Microsoft Office (word, excel and PowerPoint).

-Excellent communication skills, teamwork skills and ability to work

independently.

-Excellent people management skills and behavioral flexibility skills.
