International Human Rights Day: The Lesley Foundation and partners organized a street walk to promote the respect of human rights
2 min readOn the commemoration of the International Human Rights Day on 10 December 2022, the Lesley Foundation organized a street walk to sensitize the population on the importance of respecting human rights.
Attended by over a hundred youth activists from different Civil Society Organizations, the street walk took place in Buea, the South West Region of Cameroon. The street walk was from the the junction of the University of Buea into the Campus with Placards carrying messages such ‘I stand for Human Rights’, ‘Women’s Rights are Human Rights’ etc
Among the Civil Society organizations that the Lesley Foundation partnered with, are; United Nations Human Rights, American Corner of the University of Buea, CHRDA, Ethical and Sustainable Future for All, Her Innovation Cameroon, Reachers Foundation and Youths For Human Rights International.
During the one day event coordinated by Ms Noela, the programs coordinator at the Lesley Foundation, the founder and president of Lesley Foundation, Mr SHEY Lesley, reiterated on the importance of continuous education on issues relating to the respect of human rights especially among youths. He further express satisfaction in relation to the massive attendance and especially primary school children who were familiar with the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
Dr. Wabi Waika, a human rights activist with vast knowledge on International Human Rights Law, presented on the sources of human rights, national and international human rights instruments protecting human rights. He went further to state that there are different sources of human rights while while giving an example which suggest the right to fair hearing started from the Garden of Eden when Adam and Eve committed the first crime according to Christian believes.
At Open Commons in the University of Buea, children drawn from different levels of primary education, animate and highlighted some human rights from within the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. During the event also, The Stage Life, a poetry organization also performed human rights oriented poems.
The representative of Reachers Foundation calls for more unity and informed partnerships among youth led Civil Society Organizations in Cameroon and also thank the Lesley Foundation for the initiative. At the end of the event, copies of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights were shared to participants.
While giving the closing remarked by the President of Ethical and Sustainable Future for All, Mr. Berinyuy Cajetan, laid more emphasis on the issues raised during the event and encouraged the participants to continue to educate their communities on issues relating to the promotion and protection of human rights.

He has intensive experience in strategic communications for Civil Society Organizations, campaign and advocacy, and social issues. He has an intensive experiencing in human rights monitoring, documentation and reporting.
