About CHRDA

The Centre for Human Rights and Democracy in Africa (CHRDA) is a Civil Society, Human Rights and Humanitarian Organization established in 2005 with the mission to enhance the promotion, protection and respect of human rights and democracy in Africa. As part of CHRDA’s effort to promote and protect human rights and the rule of law, CHRDA has embarked on several projects covering different thematic including gender and women’s rights, peace and democracy, Human Rights monitoring, documenting and reporting, humanitarian aid, research and empowerment. We offer a range of services to vulnerable persons, conflict victims, people affected by gender based violence and human rights violations, including psychosocial and legal support, well as empowering women and young people affected by conflict and capacity building. CHRDA has established partnerships and operates in close proximity with local, regional, national and international organizations.

Description and Context

CHRDA was established in 2005, and since then the organization has been relentlessly working to promote a positive culture of Human Rights and Democracy in Cameroon. Since 2016, the Anglophone regions in Cameroon have been affected by an armed conflict that continue to claim lives, destroying civilian property, displacing and leaving many vulnerable. As we strengthen interventions in accordance with CHRDA’s strategic plan of upscaling project/program design and implementation in the conflict regions of Cameroon, CHRDA is seeking a project officer with key functions of: project conceptualization, writing and management; grant sourcing; strategic analysis; project/program coherence, sustainability and coordination; strategic planning and cooperation with partners and funding organizations; strategic partnership and resource mobilization, advisory services; strategy and activity formation; innovation and knowledge management.

In supporting the scale-up of activities within CHRDA’s framework and upcoming projects, we seek a project officer for the implementation and acceleration of project and program activities.

Duties and Responsibilities

The project officer will be part of the project unit at CHRDA, reporting directly to the Executive Director. He/she will liaise with partners such as GIZ, OSF, NERD, UN agencies and relevant stakeholders in implementing the following duties and responsibilities.

  1. Designing and drafting project documents and project activities.
  2. Grants sourcing, application and follow up.
  3. Support the production of knowledge product and substantive working documents
  4. Support to organize high level and technical meetings, events and visits for the implementation of project activities
  5. Carryout research, analysis, review and draft concise thematic reports
  6. Support program coordination and collaboration
  7. Perform other duties deemed necessary for the efficient functioning of project activities
  8. Provide strategic and technical advice on key events and trends on the situation of the conflict affected regions in Cameroon.

Education Qualification

Masters or equivalent in Law, Human Rights, Development, Business Administration, Social Sciences, combined with 5 (five) years of relevant experience in the field of Project Management. Applicants with experience working in a conflict setting has an added advantage.
