Environmental Disaster Disaster in Cameroon: A Double Landslide causes loss of lives, destruction of vehicles and road block in the West Region
2 min readIn the West Region of Cameroon, a double landslide has claimed the lives of at least three persons. It is reported that the first landslide occurred and while the first responders were trying to open the road that was blocked, another landslide occurred costing lives, vehicles and other tools. The disaster which occurred on 5 November 2024 is a call for concern and a need for the global community to prioritized climate action.
From videos widely circulated online and which HRLRC analyzed to the best of its knowledge, we could see lands slide occurring live while people were running for safety. The excavators were live trying to clear the road while passengers coming from the Litoral Region and those from the West and Northwest Region anxiously waiting for the road to be open.
Many people have been making comments on the unfortunate incident including Samuel Etoo who commented on his Facebook page. “A natural accident causes another tragedy on the Dschang Cliff. All our most pious thoughts to the bereaved families following the double landslide at the end of Dschang Cliff. Union of prayers for the victims and their families.”
Recently, the Climate Change Observatory warned of the risk of landslides in seven regions of Cameroon including the West Region..
