The atmosphere in Douala on 8 June 2025 was nothing short of electrifying. Although Maurice Kamto had not planned any public gathering upon his return from the MK2025 meeting in Paris, the people of Douala refused to let administrative obstacles dampen their spirit.
According Maurice Kamto, they came out in force, demonstrating an unshakable commitment to democratic change and peaceful political transition. This was happening despite the heavy police presence and the tense political climate. the People stood their ground with remarkable discipline, proving that Cameroon’s citizens are ready to take ownership of their country’s future. Their peaceful yet determined mobilization sent a powerful message to both national and international observers: Cameroon is prepared for change. The welcome Kamto received spoke volumes about the energy and conviction of the movement.
The images circulated widely across social media and television channels, illustrating the massive turnout and resilience of those who support democratic reforms. Unfortunately, some law enforcement officers reportedly resorted to unnecessary acts of intimidation, including the confiscation of motorcycles belonging to young taxi drivers under dubious pretexts.
This incident highlights the challenges ahead as Cameroon approaches its presidential election. Kamto has called on all relevant authorities to ensure fair play and impartiality in the electoral process, urging ELECAM and the Constitutional Council to uphold their legal responsibilities. The upcoming election must be conducted with transparency, free from intimidation, and in strict adherence to constitutional principles.
Kamto also took this moment to remind fellow citizens, both within Cameroon and in the diaspora, of the crucial importance of voter registration. With only a few days left before the electoral roll closes, he encouraged everyone to secure their voter cards and mobilize their communities to do the same.
The People of Change have already proven their commitment. The next step? Turning that momentum into action at the ballot box, ensuring that democratic alternation becomes a reality for Cameroon peacefully and resolutely.
