Separatist fighters have killed at least five Cameroonian soldiers in Lassin, a locality in the Bui Division of the North West Region. This is coming at a time when there is an increase in the use of Improvised Explosives Device (IED) attacks in the North West and South-West Regions.

The attack was coordinated by one of the Ambazonian dreaded “General No Pity” who are fighting for the restoration of the Independence of Southern Cameroons or Ambazonia. Reports indicate that they were 6 soldiers on duty at the time of the attack and only one survived the attack, one is missing while the carcasses of the other four have been confirmed

On 24 May 2021, they attacked a gendarmerie brigade in Lasin of Bui Division at the early hours of about 2:00 am. According to some separatist leaders, the “The Marines of Bambalang” and the “Bui Warriors” one of the dreaded groups in the separatist’s movement jointly carried out this attack.

On 26 May 2021, the Governor of the North West Region Adolphe Lele Lafrique confirmed the attack and acknowledges that four gendarmes were killed and their weapons were taken away. He said in the state media that “At about 2:00 am (local time), one of the leaders of the armed separatist groups, General No Pity attacked the gendarmerie brigade at Lassin in Bui, North-West region, killing four gendarmes and taking away weapons”

It is worthy to note that General No Pity is one of the most feared who has carried out many major attacks since the beginning of the Anglophone armed conflict in 2016 and he has been successful in the attacks. He has attacked at least three gendarmerie post while carting away with a large number of weapons and ammunition.

The Cameroonian soldiers to confront the separatist fighters who are based in the area have since raided the Bui Division of the North West region. The separatist fighters in retaliation have responded with several ambushes and the use of IED on several occasions. These attacks have led to casualties and property destruction while increasing the humanitarian crisis as the civilian population are now hiding in bushes with no access to life-sustaining facilities. Bui Division precisely in Kumbo sub Division is now the stronghold for of separatist fighters.
