Ghana: Explosion kills 17, destroys at least 500 hundred buildings

The aftermath of the ???huge explosion??? which occurred on January 20 in Apiate between Bogoso and Bawdie in the Western Region of Ghana.

Following a huge explosion in Western Ghana on 20 January 2022, At least 17 people were confirmed killed after a motorcycle collided with a vehicle carrying explosives, according to officials. as reported by CNN News “The reports that I’m getting from the bureaus, hospitals, is that [there are] roughly about 17 people that have passed away,” Isaac Dasmani, the municipal chief executive for the Prestea Huni-Valley Municipal Assembly, told local media.

According to BBC News, the blast affected about 500 houses in the area, some of which were completely destroyed in Apiatse between Bogoso and the village of Bawdie. as reported by BBC News, Local police commander William Jabialu said the number of confirmed deaths had been revised down to 13 from a previous toll of 17.

The Aljazeera News report that “A total of 17 people have unfortunately been confirmed dead, and 59 injured people have been rescued,” Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah said in a statement released overnight. Seji Saji Amedonu, deputy director general of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), said 500 buildings had been destroyed. A regional emergency official told local media he had seen 10 dead bodies.
