CORE CARE AFRICA Commemorates International Humanitarian Day in Buea-Cameroon

CORE CARE AFRICA Foundation joined the Internationational community to commermorate world humanitarian day on 19 August 2022. Members of Core Care Africa participated in the football match organised by local and international organizations in Buea, the South West Region of Cameroon. Among the organisations that participated in the program include OCHA Cameroon, UNECEF, etc.

This day was declared as world humanitarian day because on 19 August 2003, a bomb attack on the Canal Hotel in Baghdad, Iraq, killed 22 humanitarian aid workers, including the UN Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Iraq, Sergio Vieira de Mello. Five years later, the General Assembly adopted a resolution designating 19 August as World Humanitarian Day (WHD).

The football match was to celebrate the humanitarian workers who are risking thier lives, those killed in line of duty and those facing threats. This day is Significant as it serves as the reminder of sacrifices made by people to humanitarian causes and needs. This year, the day aims to draws attention to selfless service of tens of thousands of volunteers who give immediate medical care, food, shelter, and protection to people during crises.

According to the founder and president of Core Care Africa Mr Ekole Bazil Najembe, Humanitarian workers need protection and psychological support. according to him, the football match between humanitarian workers in Buea should be routine so as to improve psychological well being of humanitarian workers.
