The Centre for Human Rights an Demcoracy in Africa in partnership with The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) or better known as the German Agency for International Cooperation is employing youths for a mentorship program with ages between 18 and 28 who are interested or want to pursue their careers as politicians, Administrators, Entrepreneurs and or Civil Society Actors in Buea, the South West Region of Cameroon. This program is part of the project on ‘Strengthening Civic Engagement of Youths in the South West Region’

The Centre for Human Rights and Democracy in Africa (CHRDA) is a Civil Society, Human Rights and Humanitarian Organization established in 2005 with mission to enhance the promotion, protection and respect for human rights and democracy.

About The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ)/German Agency for International Cooperation 

Civil Peace Service Cameroon (CPS) is a program initiated by GIZ aimed at promoting Civil Society cooperation and active participation of young people in social processes as a contribution to the prevention of violence and enhance peacebuilding in Cameroon.

Context and Justification

The Civil Peace Service is one of GIZ’s program that runs through a collaborative management with national partners and in the South West Region we have CHRDA.  The ongoing conflict has exacerbated the level of exclusion of young women and men from political and democratic processes; increased the level of disillusionment with authorities; eroded trust in the State; and aggravated civic disengagement of young women and men. Civic engagement plays a vital role in the development of a nation. The engagement of young people in civic activities is crucial for promoting democracy, ensuring social justice, and good governance. Cameroon is facing challenges regarding civic engagement among young people, especially in the South West Region.  This project is to assist in enhancing civic engagement among young people in the South West Region. To achieve this, CHRDA is requesting for mentees interested in the fields of Politics, Administration, Entrepreneurship and CSOs activists, willing to participate in political and democratic processes.

Eligibility

In other to be eligible for this program, youths interested must fall within the following Criteria.

  • Be of ages 18-28
  • Located within Fako, Buea Municipality.
  • Interested in gaining Political, Entrepreneurial and leadership skills
  • Can work with a diverse group of people
  • Must have at least an Advanced level Certificate or equivalent

Expected Results

The CPS outcome, addressed by this project is to enable young women and men articulate their civic engagement and demand for accountability of state institutions in a dialogue-oriented, effective, precise and thus goal-oriented manner without exacerbating conflicts. Civil society actors and local state actors support the political participation of young citizens, especially women.

The overall learning objective this project aims to achieve, Civil Society actors and local state actors to support the political participation of young citizens, especially women in the Southwest.

Expected Outcome

  1. Young leaders will become more confident in their leadership abilities through the mentorship program.
  2. Mentors recognize the contribution of youths and get them more  involved in democratic and political processes
  3. Mentees mobilize other youths to become more civically engaged and develop change initiatives in their communities.

NB: Candidates should express their interest in their motivational letters, either to be mentored in Politics, Administration, Entrepreneurship or CSO activists.
