CHRDA Builds the Capacity of Community Leaders on Effective Communication Relating to Gender Sensitive Issues in the North West and South West Regions of Cameroon
2 min readThe Centre for Human Rights and Democracy in Africa, a civil society organization in Cameroon has train a total of fifty community leaders in the North West and South West Regions of Cameroon on effective communications relating to Gender Sensitive issues. This training is part of the two years program, “supporting women’s participation in conflict resolution in the North West and South West regions of Cameroon” funded by the National Endowment for Democracy (NED) to train mostly youths on effective mainstreaming of gender equality and the inclusion of women in conflict resolution and political participation in the North West and South West Regions of Cameroon.
The training workshops which took place in Bamenda the North West Region from 12 to 13 January 2024 and in Buea, the South West Region from 19 to 20 January 2024 was focused effective communications relating to Gender Sensitive Issues. During the training, the participants engaged in designing a draft policy paper, taking into consideration their previous trainings, which highlights the challenges, strategies and solutions to address gender sensitive issues, which have been persistent as a results of the conflict in the North West and South West Regions.
Participants were equally drilled on digital communication and advocacy for policy reform. With the use of effective communication channels. According to the trainer, the executive director at CHRDA and Gender Expert Dr Violet Fokum, women, youths and community leaders have the ability to positively influence policies in Cameroon.
We are positive about the engagements and outcomes of the various activities of this project from idea exchange, interactions, experience sharing and research. All these aspects have greatly contributed to the quality of advocacy materials produced by participants, encouraging stakeholders to take proper action in addressing gender sensitive issues, with a focus on gender based violence as a results of conflict and insecurity, a statement mad by CHRDA on their official Facebook page
