Call for Applications to Youth in Africa
Equations Nomades
22-26 September 2025, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
We are calling on the youth of Africa to join an inspiring movement, Equations Nomades, that seeks to reinvent the reappropriation of our rich and diverse cultural heritage. The purpose of this programme is simple yet powerful: to honor and celebrate the very essence of our African cultures and ancestral legacies.
In a world where cultures often clash and identities can become blurred, we believe it is crucial for young Africans to embrace their roots, strengthen their identities, and celebrate the unique stories that make us who we are. Through artistic expression, free from constraints or limitations, this programme offers an open space for dialogue, where creativity becomes a powerful tool for self-discovery and intercultural exchange.
This initiative is about more than just preserving tradition; it is about fostering a new, dynamic cultural movement that connects the past, present, and future. As we explore our ancestral heritage, we also open the door to greater understanding and respect among cultures from across the globe. Our diversity is our strength, and by honoring it, we create the space for both personal and collective growth.
Criteria for Participation.
We invite young Africans from all corners of the continent to apply. Youth involved in Associations and Clubs for UNESCO are especially encouraged to take part. If you are passionate about cultural exchange, creative expression, and celebrating your heritage, this programme is for you. To ensure the most impactful and inclusive experience, we ask that all applicants meet the following criteria:
1. Age: Participants must be between the ages of 18 and 25.
2. Cultural Connection: A strong connection to and interest in your own African culture and
ancestral heritage. This could be through art, music, dance, storytelling, fashion, or any
other form of cultural expression.
3. Commitment: A willingness to engage in an open and collaborative dialogue, share ideas,
and work with others from different cultural backgrounds. This is a space for mutual
respect and understanding.
4. Artistic Expression: You must have a creative project or idea that explores or celebrates
your culture. This could include any form of art—visual arts, performance, writing, music,
etc.—that reflects your heritage.
5. Openness to Intercultural Dialogue: We are looking for individuals who are open to
learning from others, sharing experiences, and exploring different perspectives on cultural
identity and expression.
6. Geographic Eligibility: Applicants must be residents of any African country. We
encourage participation from all regions, ensuring a diverse representation of cultures and
perspectives.
7. Affiliation with Associations and Clubs for UNESCO: This will be considered an added
advantage during the selection process.
How to Apply:
• Submit a brief personal statement (200 words max) explaining your connection to your
cultural heritage and how you plan to contribute to the programme.
• Include samples of your creative work (this could be a link to a portfolio, a performance
video, artwork, or any other relevant format).
• Provide your contact details and your preferred method of communication.
This is your moment to be a part of something bigger—an opportunity to contribute to the future
of African cultural expression while strengthening the ties that bind us all.
