2 min readJournalism should not be a crime, journalists are human rights activists of all times, freedom fighters of all times, justice seekers of all times. They support each and every one in one way or the other. In the community of rights defenders, they play a great rule, they sound the whistle to a wider range without hesitation. Human Rights and Legal Research Centre (HRLRC) is joining the International community to DEMAND JUSTICE for Samuel Wazizi. Enforced Disappearance should not be normalized in the 21st Century in Cameroon. Torture of Pressmen and Women should not be normalized in the 21st Century, we cannot just stand and look freedom fighters, human rights defenders perish in the hands of injustice We DEMAND JUSTICE for Samuel Wazizi
He had no gun but a pen while his crime was being a journalist in Cameroon. Samuel Ajiekah Abuwe popularly known as “Samuel Wazizi” was a journalist with Buea based Chillen Music and Television (CMTV) in Cameroon. He was arrested by members of Muea police station in Cameroon’s Southwest Region after being reportedly accused of having links with the separatist fighter. He has been detained incommunicado since August 2019. Several attempts by his lawyers, family members, and colleagues have been in vain. Till today, his whereabouts is unknown, his carcass remains unknown and the Cameroon government authorities have not made any statement about his whereabouts or what happened to him. Facts have proven that he was being arrested by the police authorities in Muea and latter seized and detained by Commander of the 21st Motorized Infantry Battalion to an unknown dungeon. His lawyers have filed several habeas corpus demanding his appearance in court to no avail. It is just of recent after being in detention for over 300days that we heard he has gone, that he has been tortured to death, that he has been killed. The question we are now asking where is his body when was he tortured to death, was his legal team aware of his health condition? #JusticeforSamuelWazizi, #NoToKillingOfJournalists, #Cameroon
